Remote Recording

I record drums from my studio for artists, producers, and composers working remotely.

The focus is on feel, sound, and keeping the process straightforward.

About

I’m a session drummer working across a range of styles, recording from a dedicated studio space.

Most of my work is done remotely – sending back drum takes that sit naturally in the track, with the option for revisions if needed.

The Process

  • A rough demo or full production
  • Notes or references (if helpful)
  • Tempo / grid info

I’ll record drums here and send back a stereo rough and individual stems if needed.

Turnaround depends on the project, but I try to keep things moving without overcomplicating it.

Approach

I’m not aiming to impose a fixed sound – the goal is to find what fits the track.

That might be something minimal, or something more detailed and textural.

I’m happy working from clear direction, or interpreting things more freely if that’s useful.

Studio

Recorded in a treated room using a combination of close mics and room mics, allowing for a range of sounds from tight and dry to more open.

Everything is tracked and delivered at high resolution, ready to drop into your session.

Gear

Drumkits:

Ludwig Classic Maple Fab 22″, 13″, 16″
Sonor Kit 20″, 12″, 13″, 16″
Gretsch Brooklyn 18″, 12″ 14″
+ odd bassdrums, toms old and new

Snaredrums:

Ludwig Supraphonic 1976, Ludwig Black Beauty, Gretsch Brooklyn,
+ other gretsch, sonor, no-name snaredrums

I play Istanbul Agop, and have an array of different ones depending on the recording situation.

Microphones, preamps, DAW and plugins

for mics, I use Vanguard V13 tube condensers on overheads, a Neumann TLM 102 and Shure Beta 52A on kick (plus a DIY subkick!), 57s on snare, MD421, or/and M88, beta 52a on toms, a Telefunken knee mic, a Beyer M160 ribbon on hi-hat, and matched Oktava condensers for the room. I also have a stereo pair set up in a storage room next door, creating a unique echo chamber that adds a distinct spatial character when needed. All preamps and recording gear are chosen for clarity and musicality – Avedis MA5 and clean Focusrite pres feeding Cubase 13 Pro, with UAD, Soundtoys, Valhalla, and XLN Audio plugins for mixing and subtle enhancement. The setup is designed to capture a natural, dynamic drum sound that sits beautifully in the mix while keeping sessions efficient and musical.
